Step 9: Big E 2 Pint IPA2-Pint-IPA-Tap-Handle

ABV: 9.5%

IBUs: 100

Big E Brewing Company is located in Lynnwood Washington in a small industrial park.  While their location is slightly off the beaten path, their beers are well worth it.  Their most popular beer, is the 2 pint IPA.  Its called 2 pint because they only let you have 2 pints of it per visit.  With the beer being 9.5% alcohol, it gets the job done pretty damn quickly.

What is interesting about this beer is its unique toasted flavor.  Almost like an Amber, this IPA has a roasted flavor that comes from toasted grains in the mash.  This style gives it an almost smoky flavor when tasted.

This beer is so well balanced that I was surprised to see the IBUs at 100.  Never the less, the hop additions are easily recognizable.  I get a hint of citrus when I taste this one, which is really refreshing considering the toasty malt elements.  The aroma is wonderful as well.  It has a nice balance between the fresh hop and sweet malt smells.  This beer almost goes down a little too easily, especially if you are a fan of ambers.

Instructions:

Big E does not bottle or can this particular beer, so you will have to head to Lynnwood to give it a go.  No matter, it is easy to find.

Head to the brewery and grab a pint.  Its a lot of fun on game days since the place is covered in TV’s, and the audience is always a lot of fun.  Don’t forget to have some food there too.  They have a small kitchen, but what comes out is pretty incredible.
