Step 8: Black Raven Wisdom Seeker Double IPABlackRaven

ABV: 9.0%

IBUs: 85

Black Raven Brewing Company is based out of Woodinville Washington and has one of the best tap lineups I have had the privilege of tasting.  I highly recommend their tasting flight when you visit them.

The Wisdom Seeker is the recent winner of the 2012 Brouwers Hop Fest and is indeed a majestic specimen.  This IPA is essentially like drinking a garden.  It is packed full of spicy floral and citrus hops that give a sense of tranquility; at least that’s how I feel.  The big 9.0% ABV ticket gives this beer a huge mouth feel that is simply amazing.  What is interesting about this beer is that they only used 1 type of malt.  A simple base 2 row malt.  That’s it.  All the bells and whistles are in the hop additions.  A true representation of a northwest double IPA.  Seriously, when you smell this beer you will think you are smelling a bouquet of freshly picked flowers straight from a garden.

There are two downsides to this beer.  First, it is not bottled, which means that if you want this one you will have to drive to Woodinville and get it of the tap (not necessarily a bad thing).  The second, is that this brew is seasonal and is not available all the time.  So check their website or give them a call and ask them if they have it on tap.  If not then ask when they will be making it again.

Instructions:

Go visit Black Raven in Woodinville.  Sit in one of the comfy chairs by the back bar area and order a pizza from their neighbors, Flying Saucer Pizza.  Just sit, drink, and melt away.
